What is Supplemental Insurance anyway?
Get
a Supplemental Insurance Quote
Major medical health insurance covers your hospital
bills after a deductible and coinsurance. But if you are
hospitalized you have lots of other bills and extra
expenses that spring up. Most of these expenses are not
covered by your health insurance. For example you may
miss work. You might have to stay home to get better for
weeks. You have a deductible to pay which sometimes can
be in the thousands of dollars. Even if you are a mother
at home without an income, a spouse or other person may
have to take off work to care for you while you recover.
The children would also have to be cared for. Health
insurance pays for most medical bills, but what about
the other expenses?
This is where Supplemental Health Insurance steps in. If
you have a supplemental plan that pays you, say
$500 - $1,000
for being admitted and $500 - $1,000 / day for being
hospitalized you can pay for those bills and expenses
that are a part of a hospitalization. The money is paid
to YOU, not the hospital or doctor. This means you can
use it to pay off your deductible and/or use it for the
expenses described above.
The new
HSA Health Plans
have certain rules that take away the tax advantages of
the HSA plan if you have certain types of supplemental
plans. But we can help you pick the Supplemental Plans
that DO work with the new
HSA Health Plans.
