2027 Medicare Plan Exits in Utah

Your plan may be changing. You still have a path forward.

A letter saying your Medicare Advantage plan is ending can leave you wondering what comes next. Greg & Adele Davies can help you understand the notice, compare the options in your county, and plan for coverage in 2027.

Good options remain. The right choice starts with your doctors, prescriptions, budget, and the coverage you want—not simply the name on your current insurance card.

First, find out what your letter means

A non-renewal means your current plan will not continue for you next year. A service-area reduction means a plan continues in some counties but leaves others. A renewal or plan-number change may move eligible members into a replacement plan.

These situations can lead to different enrollment rights. Keep your notice and envelope, and match the plan's contract and plan number—such as H1994-022—not just its name. Ask us to review whether you need to choose new coverage or are being moved into another plan.

Which Utah plans are changing for 2027?

The summaries below compare CMS's 2026 and 2027 plan listings and its 2027 plan crosswalk. Your carrier's notice explains how the change applies to you. This is a selection of changes, not a complete list of every plan or county.

Select Health

Medicare + Kroger H1994-022 is non-renewed. Its 2026 counties were Cache, Davis, Iron, Morgan, Salt Lake, Summit, Utah, Washington, and Weber.

Essential H1994-017 leaves Piute, Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne but continues in Iron and Washington. Select Health also leaves Morgan in the compared Utah listings. Other Select Health options remain in parts of Utah. Richfield is a city in Sevier County, not a separate county.

Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah

Its Medicare Advantage footprint shrinks from 12 counties to four: Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, and Weber.

No 2027 Regence Medicare Advantage listings remain in Box Elder, Cache, Iron, Morgan, Summit, Tooele, Wasatch, or Washington. Valiance H4605-001 is non-renewed. Continuing plans should still be reviewed for cost and benefit changes.

HealthSpring / former Cigna plans

Premier H0439-024 and True Choice H7849-029 are non-renewed. The compared CMS file shows no HealthSpring Medicare Advantage plans in Utah for 2027.

This concerns Medicare Advantage availability; it does not mean every HealthSpring insurance product is ending.

Humana

Value Choice H5216-456 changes to H5216-471 with a reduced service area in CMS's crosswalk. It should not be described as a blanket non-renewal for every member.

The new H5216-471 listing covers Cache, Davis, Morgan, Rich, Salt Lake, Utah, and Weber. Members elsewhere need to review their notice and local options. Humana continues to offer other Utah plans.

Aetna

Enhanced H5521-656 is non-renewed. It previously served Box Elder, Cache, Carbon, Duchesne, Juab, Morgan, Rich, Summit, and Tooele.

Eagle H5521-351 reduces its service area and continues in Davis, Salt Lake, and Utah. Members in its other former counties, including Juab, should review replacement coverage.

Good options remain

CMS lists 2027 Medicare Advantage options in Washington County from Aetna, Humana, Select Health, and UnitedHealthcare, including plans with $0 monthly plan premiums.

Your county may have a different selection. A $0 plan premium does not mean free medical care; Part B premiums, copays, deductibles, and other costs can still apply. We can help compare the full picture.

You have options for your next chapter

Choose another Medicare Advantage plan

Compare available plans in your county, including doctor and hospital networks, prescription coverage, total costs, and extra benefits. Check each plan's eligibility and enrollment rules.

Consider Original Medicare with added coverage

You may choose Original Medicare, a separate Part D drug plan, and a Medicare Supplement policy. Certain plan exits can give you special Medigap buying rights. We can help you review whether those rights apply.

What if you do nothing?

If your plan is genuinely non-renewed and you do not join another Medicare Advantage plan before it ends, Medicare says you will be enrolled in Original Medicare. Parts A and B do not include a stand-alone Part D drug plan and have no annual limit on your medical out-of-pocket costs without supplemental coverage.

A renewal or automatic move to a replacement plan is different. Read your letter before assuming you will return to Original Medicare. We recommend reviewing your options before December 7 rather than leaving the decision to the default outcome.

Important dates for a plan ending December 31, 2026

  • October 15–December 7, 2026: Annual Enrollment

Choose a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan during Medicare Open Enrollment. If the plan receives your enrollment request by December 7, coverage starts January 1, 2027.

  • December 8, 2026–February 28, 2027: Non-renewal special enrollment

Medicare provides this additional enrollment opportunity for qualifying plan non-renewals. Your coverage start date depends on when you enroll. Confirm your specific rights and effective date before relying on this window.

  • Medigap: 60 days before to 63 days after coverage ends

When a qualifying Medicare Advantage exit gives you guaranteed-issue rights and you return to Original Medicare, you can buy certain Medigap policies without medical underwriting. For a December 31 end date, this generally means November 1, 2026 through March 4, 2027. Keep your notice as proof.

Depending on your eligibility, protected Medigap choices can include Plans A, B, D, G, K, or L sold in your state. Plans C and F are restricted to people eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020. Age, prior coverage, and the reason coverage ends can affect your rights. Medigap cannot cover you while you remain in Medicare Advantage.

Bring these four things to your conversation

  1. Your county and ZIP code.
  2. Your current plan name, plan number, and non-renewal or renewal notice.
  3. Your doctors, hospitals, and preferred pharmacies.
  4. Your prescriptions, including doses, and the monthly budget you have in mind.

With those details, Greg & Adele can help you narrow the choices and find coverage that fits. We will explain what remains available, what changes, and the steps to take next.
